Dancers…What is the dance world actually like?
Main Post:
I’ve heard it can be brutal, but it can’t be like this?? I’d love to know your experiences, it might help me heal my soul after this lol!
Top Comment: Unfortunately it’s pretty similar. Obviously we didn’t have producers meddling and stirring up unnecessary drama but I have some dance horror stories, costume stories, and just stuff that’s exclusive to dancers/performers. Here are a few: I had a coach/ dance teacher that just didn’t like me. She was the head coach too. I was extremely quiet and mild mannered and she really picked on me because of it. One time after a performance she told all of us girls to go to our favorite teacher. A few of us girls went to this teacher ( I kind of had a feeling she didn’t like me, but I was desperate for her approval). She literally looked at me in disgust and said “some of you guys are in my like and I don’t even like you”. Some years later, I saw her at a competition and she told me that she always knew I was a great dancer 🙄. She has blatant favorites and would also tell us who her favorites were. It wasn’t really based off of dance ability either. When guest choreographers came in I was always center, with leads, and always complimented. She just couldn’t stand me. We had to dress alike and be in sync wherever we went. If one girl was out of sync or not in the right place she would get in trouble. They would usually make us do wall sits or push ups. Some positive memories include practicing in the hotel ballrooms until midnight with all of the girls,Doing each others hair and makeup, stretching each other, and just being together. We switched costumes a lot. Like whose body looked better in what🤢. I had one teacher who was super eccentric and intense. When learning leaps he held up a metal pan during across the floor. If your leap wasn’t high enough you’d hit your face on the metal pan
What do you all think about dancing?
Main Post:
How do you all feel about dancing?
I never have the need to go dance to express myself. Even socially or alone it is not a fun thing to me. But there is one specific case where I can like it. If I am with someone who wants to dance with me, more so than just dance to dance, then I can feel comfortable and enjoy it. Dancing has to be personal and shared with someone I trust explicitly for me to do and like it. But in all cases I much rather talk to someone.
Top Comment: I had a girlfriend that was an ENFP who loved to dance. Not even that could get me to dance. My body doesn’t get it.
Dancing is weird and kinda dumb tbh
Main Post:
It's impossible to go anywhere online and not cringe at the dumb dances people are obsessed with. You look ridiculous moving your body all about like that and most of the time people dance at parties they're showing off their ass more than their actual dancing. Remember how everybody laughed at Raygun at the Olympics? That's how I feel about 99% of people dancing in just about any way. I cannot understand why you would want to move so ridiculously just because some bad music is playing. You look weird, the music typically used for dancing is bad and trashy (unless it's cultural or something), and I don't want to be around that mess. Chill out.
Edit: If you're going to be so butthurt about unpopular opinions, I'm not sure why you're here to begin with.
Top Comment: Dancing is just letting your body move with the rhythm. Even birds think it's fun.
TIL certain tonic transformations both allow you to dance and have unique dance emotes
Main Post:
LOOK AT THE TINY COW DANCE
Top Comment: Most tonic dance emotes are really the enemy stun animation. It's a cute idea for the dance, because it actually does look like a dance. Rock on, you little Dolyak!
Dancing is the strangest social thing humans do and I'm over acting like it's not.
Main Post:
Sure artistic/ cultural stuff aside. But Y'all Wiggling all sweaty in a crowd - flailing this way and that. Peacocking. Ooooh look at my moves... Y'all weird. Yes I have no rythm. No I'm not jealous. Maybe a bit.
Edit- fixed spelling.
Holy shit I thought my post would die in new. Yeah I could have done a better job explaining it. It's not about dancing in general. More about crowds.
I should have elaborated. Le me see if I can properly put this into words. I have a strong aversion to groups. Like it's weird. Not that I'm people phobic. More like group-think creeps me out. Like crowds all doing / thinking similar stuff. Cheering at sports or concerts. Church. Protests. People singing national anthems. Like I'm freaked out by people mentally joining a "crowd" and seemingly loosing autonomy.
Dunno if that makes any sense just woke up.
Appreciate everyone's responses.
Top Comment: OP I get it, I give off ‘Elaine’ vibes when I dance, I just can’t do it. Can do the ‘learn the steps’ dances sorta but I lack any natural rhythm. It feels so bad because dancing gives me so much happiness but makes everyone watching feel awkward for me. I do understand the desire to dance together in a crowd experiencing the music together I just wish my body could do it.
